Paige Clark '21 Hosts Webinar on Yale Young Global Scholars
There are many great summer educational experiences for students, but it can be challenging to figure out what each program is really like. On Thursday, October 8, 2020, Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) alumna (and ICS senior) Paige Clark shared information with College Counselors Nadine Marks and Maggie Melson and Sydney Kornmeyer ’23 about the amazing opportunities she enjoyed during the 2020 YYGS Connect program when she connected with students form all over the world. While Paige’s experiences were virtual due to the global pandemic, she enjoyed connecting with people from Pakistan and Vietnam in her learning family.
Yale Young Global Scholars is designed for rising juniors and seniors in high school (you must be 16 or older by the first day of the program) who love learning and want to enrich themselves. YYGS features an intense focus on diversity of all kinds and questions are encouraged. No college credit is earned nor are grades given.
Yale offers four programs over three summer sessions. For 2021, students can apply to study:
• Innovation in Science and Technology
• Politics, Law, and Economics
• Literature, Philosophy, and Culture
• Solving Global Challenges
The program is usually offered on Yale’s campus so participants can live in dorms, eat in dining halls, and attend lectures and classes to get a preview of college life. The daily schedule is full from breakfast to evening time with your “family,” including lectures by Yale faculty and other global leaders, breakout sessions, lunch, seminar conversations with 10-15 students, and time to work on your capstone project with students from other programs to broaden your connections further. Even the 2020 virtual version provided Paige with phenomenal opportunities to collaborate with students form all around the world to create potential solutions to some of our world’s most difficult challenges.
This is a selective program with Early Action Applications due November 10, 2020 and Regular Applications due by January 12, 2021. Tuition is $6,500.00. Yale awards significant scholarships and need-based financial aid to 99% of participants.
