Annabelle Derrick and Kyle Huey Earn National Merit Scholarship Commendation

Indian Creek School (ICS) is proud to announce that seniors Annabelle Derrick and Kyle Huey have been named Commended Students in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.  Head of Upper School Matt McCormick presented Annabelle and Kyle with official Letters of Commendation from ICS and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) at Friday's Upper School Assembly.

Annabelle and Kyle join the ranks of 34,000 commended students throughout the nation who are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.  Commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers our of over 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

"Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."

Mr. McCormick shared his pride in Indian Creek's Commended Students as he told the students of their awards. "Annabelle and Kyle are true examples of the Indian Creek student. They each exhibit true curiosity and a passion for learning for the sake of gaining knowledge.  In addition to their academic successes, both students are actively involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities, and most importantly, show care and kindness to those around them. We are so proud of them both."
