Lower School Students Explore Virtual Spanish Classroom
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated across the United States from September 15 to October 15. The Indian Creek School community sees great value in learning about and honoring different cultures year round. This month, students in grades 1 to 6 are learning about the many Hispanic and Latino communities around the world, as well as famous scientists, performers, sport figures, artists and political figures who have made an impact in our society throughout the years.
Sra. Vazquez created a Virtual Spanish classroom through Seesaw through which her first through third grade students have been exploring many facets of Hispanic culture. The students have enjoyed watching videos of students their age talk about their lives. “ I liked that they talked about what they wanted to be when they grow up,” shared an ICS second grade student. “I liked seeing all the kids and hearing from them about what they want to be when they grow up,” a first grade student agreed. Another second grader "liked the video where they said what their favorite food was and showed them dancing." Students enjoyed finding commonalities with the children from Puerto Rico and Spain. “I liked the pretty dresses and the pretty dancing and some of the kids like to draw and I like to draw,” explained a first grade student. We look forward to hearing more about what our Lower School students are learning, as they continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
