Opening Lower School Assembly Involves Stories, Fun Facts, and Games

The Indian Creek Pre-K3 through sixth grade community came together on Friday, September 18, for their first (virtual) Lower School School Assembly of the year.

This gathering gave students the opportunity to get to know their Lower School administrative team. Head of School Booth Kyle, Associate Head of School Eliza McLaren, Assistant Head of School for External Affairs John Bonhom, Head of Lower School Jennifer Malachowski, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Sarah Allen, and Lower School Counselor Maryellen Polvino-Bodnar (P-B) read stories, shared fun-facts, and completed a series of "Minute-to-Win-It" challenges as a way to help the students get to know them.

Dr. P-B opened the assembly by reading a story about the many ways that our choices can impact others. Through the story, she shared that "even a bad day can become a great day with kindness."  The administrators then answered a series of rapid-fire questions, borrowed from the first grade.  They shared details such as favorite ice cream flavor (Strawberry - Mr. Kyle, Mocha Chip - Ms. P-B, Mint Chip - Ms. Allen) and favorite storybook character (Harry Potter - Mr. Bonhom, Ada Twist Scientist - Mrs. McLaren, Charlotte  from Charlotte's Web - Mrs. Malachowski.)

Then the fun really began!  The administrators entertained the student body by completing timed "Rudolph Nose" and "Cookie Face" challenges, live through Zoom.  Ms. Allen and Mr. Kyle confidently won Cookie Face in a heated battle. Students could be heard cheering (and laughing) throughout the halls of the Evergreen Campus during this fun opening assembly.
