Director of Teaching and Learning Sarah Allen '01 Shares Expertise with Educators Nationwide
As Indian Creek School leads the way in creating a healthy, engaging, robust Virtual School program, other schools across the country are looking to our faculty as leaders in innovative educational practices. Director of Teaching and Learning Sarah Allen '01 has played an instrumental role in designing the ICS Virtual School program, educating our teachers in best practices and technology resources, and guiding the school through implementation in all grade levels. Not only is Indian Creek benefiting from Ms. Allen's expertise, but many other schools nation-wide are looking to her for guidance.
Ms. Allen has been a key presenter at educational technology conferences across the country for many years. Her experitise has been in high demand as the nation is shifting to distance learning practices. Last week, she presented at two virtual conferences to educators in both the Association of Independent Maryland and DC (AIMS) Schools and the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS).
On Tuesday, March 24, Ms. Allen conducted a webinar for close to 100 Connecticut educators on ways to create meaningful blended, virtual learning experiences for young learners. She used her vast knowledge from designing and teaching BLinc courses for ICS Lower School students to share how to best reach young students in the virtual environment.
On Wednesday, March 25, she then participated on an AIMS panel about strategies and values around virtual school for early learners. This audience was comprised of 130 local teachers and administrators who were eager to learn more about the best practices upon which our program is designed.
Ms. Allen enjoys sharing information with peers at other schools at this important time. "It was a great experienced to collaborate with other area school leaders!"
