Sixth Grade Experiences Shocking Van de Graaf Science Lab

The Class of 2026 made some 'shocking' discoveries in Science class on Friday, February 25, as Director of Campus Connections (and former ICS Science teacher) Mr. Bruce Crossman visited with his Van de Graaff machine! A Van de Graaff generator is an electrostatic generator which uses a moving belt to accumulate electric charge on a hollow metal globe on the top of an insulated column, creating very high electric potentials. During this lesson on electric charges and currents, Mr. Crossman illustrated the different ways in which conductors and react to electricity with some entertaining - and even shocking - demonstrations.
