2020-21 Administrative Leadership Team Announcement

Head of School Booth Kyle shared some updates about the 2020-21 Administrative Leadership team with the Indian Creek community this week:

Upper School Head Update: Over the winter, we conducted a search for an Upper School Head, looking for someone to inspire and support students, faculty, and families, and someone to lead the grades 7-12 academic program into its exciting next chapter. Following a nation-wide search with a robust pool of over 50 candidates, the search committee recommended to me that the person best suited to lead the Upper School is our very own current Interim Upper School Head, Matt McCormick. A respected member of the ICS faculty/administration for 19 years, Matt is a champion of the ICS commitment to knowing and supporting students as individuals and to promoting opportunities for them to discover their passions. Amidst much recent change, Matt provides stability and an important link to institutional knowledge. I am thrilled to report that Matt has accepted the appointment as Upper School Head, and am grateful to the search committee for their dedicated commitment to Indian Creek School.

Lower School Head Update: I have also appointed Interim Lower School Head Jen Malachowski to be our Lower School Head moving forward. Jen has been a member of the ICS faculty for 22 years and an administrator for 16 years. Like Matt, Jen has a deep understanding of and appreciation for our school culture. Jen has provided skilled and stabilizing leadership at the Lower School this year. Her expertise and dedication to providing an excellent school experience will continue to benefit our students, families, and faculty. Her capacity to stay grounded in the present, while at the same time thinking ahead to the future, will ensure that the 2020-21 school year will be a seamless one as we achieve our goal of moving to the new building and one school campus.

Associate Head Update:  Earlier this fall we appointed Eliza McLaren to begin as Associate Head of School on July 1. Eliza is currently the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Marketing/Director of the Institute for Innovative Teaching and Learning at Rye Country Day School in New York. Her current job title is reflective of her breadth of experience. Eliza’s role will focus on leading the work of our teaching faculty and the academic program from Pre-K3 through grade 12. She will work closely with Jen, Matt, and Sarah Allen, our Director of Curriculum and Instruction, to ensure our faculty and curriculum school-wide are the best they can be. There is real momentum at ICS right now, and I have tremendous confidence in the collective capacity and passion of this academic leadership team.

Assistant Head of School for External Affairs: Lastly, I am excited to announce a new role and appointment. John Bonhom will join us on July 1 as Assistant Head of School for External Affairs. John is currently the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management at Browne Academy in Alexandria, VA. John visited with us this fall and those who met him were taken with his personable nature, systems acumen, and deep experience in admissions and financial aid. As our Assistant Head of School for External Affairs, John will oversee the Admission, Flexible Tuition, Alumni, and Development offices and serve as the primary liaison to the PTO. We are so fortunate to add John to our leadership team. John has the kind of presence that impacts everyone around him positively. We are also pleased to welcome his two boys to the Classes of 2032 and 2035! You can read more about Mr. Bonhom here.

I am so happy to have Eliza, Matt, Jen, and John as part of the new leadership team at Indian Creek School. With these four appointments, we bring an inspired blend of new and old to the school. All four are exceptional individuals and outstanding educators. It will be my privilege to work with them to ensure that Indian Creek School fulfills its mission, unifies on one campus in the coming years, and continues to serve as an outstanding place for our students to learn and grow. Please join me in congratulating Jen and Matt on their appointments and in extending a warm ICS welcome to Eliza and John when they join us in July.
