John Bonhom Named Assistant Head of School for External Affairs

Indian Creek School is pleased to announce that John L. Bonhom II, has been hired to serve as Assistant Head of School for External Affairs, to begin on July 1, 2020. In this role, Mr. Bonhom will lead Indian Creek’s Admission, Flexible Tuition, Development, and Alumni offices. He will also serve as the School’s liaison to the Parent Teacher Organization.

Mr. Bonhom comes to Indian Creek from Browne Academy in Alexandria, Virginia, where he has served as Director of Admission and Enrollment Management since 2014. As part of the Administrative Team at Browne, Mr. Bonhom oversees student enrollment and retention efforts, has implemented a new flexible tuition structure, and helps to coordinate the School’s marketing efforts. Prior to his work at Browne Academy, Mr. Bonhom served as the Director of Financial Aid and Associate Director of Admission at The Madeira School in McLean, Virginia, the Director of Admission and Financial Aid at Grace Episcopal School in Kensington, Maryland, and as the Associate Director of Admission at both St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, and The Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland. Over his 15 years in Independent School administration, Mr. Bonhom has also served as teacher, academic advisor, committee leader, program coordinator and project m anager, among other roles. This experience has given him deep insight into how the advancement arena impacts the school experience for all constituents.

Mr. Bonhom received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Educational Studies with a concentration in Social Class and Urban Education from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. He earned his Master of Arts degree in Education with a concentration in School Administration at Michigan State University, in East Lansing, Michigan. His research at Michigan focused on multicultural education, and especially issues of diversity and inclusion in schools.

As Head of School Booth Kyle shares, “John has deep experience and success in admissions and financial aid, has created communications plans, and is a systems expert. His warm and engaging personality makes him a natural fit for work in the alumni, development, and PTO spaces. I’m so happy that he’ll be joining the ICS leadership team as he has the ability to impact the experience of everyone in the community.”

Mr. Bonhom looks forward to becoming a part of the Indian Creek community, along with his wife Whyvette and children Trey and Wyatt, who will join the ICS Classes of 2032 and 2035 next year.
