Creekers Brave the Chesapeake for Record-Setting Polar Bear Plunge
CREEK Cares! This mantra was proven by the 60 Upper School students and faculty members braved temperatures in the mid-30s for a great cause on Thursday, January 23, as they dove in to the Cool Schools Polar Bear Plunge 2020 to benefit the Special Olympics of Maryland. The Creek plungers, led by student captains Christopher Kokoski '22 and Michael Mercer '20, enjoyed the festivities at Sandy Point Beach before hoisting the Creek flag high, and rushing into the Chesapeake Bay. Giddy with laughter, pride, and maybe a bit of shock, the plungers cheered each other on and had a wonderful time.
This year's Polar Bear Plunge was record-setting for the Creek, as students raised their highest level of donations in school history. Indian Creek's team has raised over $7,400 for Special Olympics Maryland, and donations are still coming in! (You can click here to contribute to the CREEK team.) The supportive Creek community came together through two restaurant fundraisers at MOD Pizza and Chipotle in the weeks leading up to the plunge. Thank you to everyone who supported this worthy endeavor, our student leaders, our Creek plungers, our faculty chaperones (Mr. Crossman, Ms. Engles, Mr. Larkin, Mr. Szech), and Plunge coordinator Mrs. Mercer for a wonderful experience. We're already looking forward to next year!
