Partnership with The Light House of Annapolis Provides Valuable Experience for Seventh and Eighth Grade Students
Students from Ms. Derry's eighth grade Advisory group, along with Director of Campus Connections Bruce Crossman, travelled to The Light House of Annapolis on Monday, September 9, for the first volunteering session of the 2019-20 school year. Indian Creek's partnership with the Light House Shelter, which provides both support and prevention for homelessness in the Annapolis area, is an important part of the ICS middle grades experience.
This year, Indian Creek seventh and eighth grade students will continue to volunteer at the shelter, working in the pantry, distributing lunches, helping with yard work, and completing any other tasks the Light House staff needs to have done. Instead of bringing lunches to the shelter as in years past, Indian Creek students are being asked to donate non-perishable food items, such as canned meat, tuna, chicken, salmon, ham, oatmeal packets, canned veggies, canned fruit, rice, fruit juice, cereal, and jam/jelly to stock the Light House pantry. Our work with the Light House Shelter has been extremely valuable to Indian Creek students, and we are so happy to be able to continue our work this year.
