Nick Menendez '22 Wins USA Bowling National Championship

On Friday, July 19, Indian Creek sophomore Nick Menendez won the 2019 USA Bowling National Championship with his team, the “Chesapeake Bay Strikers."

The Naional Championships were held in Detroit, Michigan, featured 16 regional champions from across the United States competing for the National Title. Nick's team, coached by his father (and ICS Trustee) Leo Menendez, represented the Northeast Region. The competition consisted of a round-robin competition with all 16 regional teams on Thursday, July 11, to determine the bracket standings for Friday's match play. The Chesapeake Bay Strikers won their match play bracket and then proceeded to the TV finals on Friday, July 19, for the 'Best of Five' competition against the South Central Team. The Strikers swept them 3-0 to take the National Title.

The TV finals will be aired on the CBS Sports network on August 27, at 7:00 p.m.

The Chesapeake Bay Strikers are from Maryland and the team consists of five youth bowlers under 15 from Crownsville, Odenton, Phoenix and Huntingtown, Maryland. Nick Menendez is one of the four bowlers. The tournament requires that only four bowlers bowl certain frames at a time, thus one member sits out. Also of note: the team bowled a Baker 300 (perfect game) during the qualifying portion of the tournament. This is only the second time this has been done.

Congratulations to Nick, Leo, and the rest of the Chesapeake Bay Strikers on this incredible achievement! Creek Nation - Be sure to tune in to the CBS airing on August 27.,
