Marcus Johnson Appointed Eagles Varsity Basketball Head Coach

Indian Creek School is thrilled to announce that Marcus Johnson has been appointed Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach.

Coach Johnson brings with him a deep understanding of and commitment to the Indian Creek Athletics philosophy, as he has served as the Eagles Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach since 2017. During his years at ICS, he has helped the team advance to at least the MIAA semi-finals all three seasons. Coach Johnson brings a true passion for coaching and mentoring students, which he has exhibited through his work with a generation of Indian Creek student athletes. “My goal is to share experiences, knowledge, and preparation with my players in order to help develop them beyond Indian Creek basketball.”

Coach Johnson is also deeply grounded in the Anne Arundel County basketball community. During his years playing for Annapolis High School (where he scored over 1,000 points), he was twice named to the Baltimore Sun’s First All-Metro Basketball Team, the Washington Post’s First All-Metro team, and twice to the Capital Gazette’s All-County First Team. Coach Johnson next played (as team Captain) for the Division I team at the College of Charleston, where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Communication. During his time with the Cougars, the team won back-to-back Conference Championships.

Coach Johnson is extremely well-liked and highly respected by Eagles players, families, and the athletics staff. As Indian Creek Athletic Director Tyler Larkin shares, “Marcus’s basketball knowledge is top notch however it is his teaching experience and the love for his players that was the ultimate reason he was promoted to lead our program.”

Coach Johnson has hit the ground running, taking over the Eagles Next Level Hoops Summer Development Camp. He can’t wait to get started preparing for the 2029-20 season with his players. "I'd like to thank the Creek administration for selecting me to continue the development and success of our student-athletes. I would also like to thank (outgoing) Coach Josh Pratt for allowing me to be a part of his staff over the last two seasons, giving me valuable leadership opportunities. I am excited to lead the Eagles Basketball program. My main focus will be to help our student-athletes reach the goals set here at ICS but to also have the development and mindset to reach their goals beyond high school."
