Upper School Celebrates Incredible Winter Athletics Season

On Wednesday, March 13, Indian Creek Upper School students, faculty, coaches, and parents came together to relive some highlights of the 2018-19 winter athletics season, and to honor the Equestrian team for their Inter-School Horse Show Championship Title repeat. Athletic Director Tyler Larken opened the assembly by expressing how hard our winter athletes work, coming out in cold temperatures, practicing on dark, early weekend mornings, and dark, late weekday nights, and giving their all every step of the way. Mr. Larkin recognized the 7/8 Boys and Girls Basketball teams for their successful seasons, refering to them as "the future of Eagles Athletics!" Next, Coaches for the JV Boys, Varsity Boys, JV Girls, and Varsity Girls Basketball team had the opportunity to share a recap of the season and honor standout players in the categories of Most Improved Player, Most Outstanding Player, and Players' Choice. Then strains of "We are the Champions" filled the auditorium, as the Equestrian Team came forward to be honored. To end the assembly, Upper School Head Mr. Gerry Connolly congratulated the winter athletes and spoke about 'moments of pride' throughout the season for each team. These moments included the JV Boys resilience which resulted in a final win over Friends School, the close family-like culture of the JV Girls team, the many times he was congratulated by officials at other schools for the sportsmanship qualities displayed by our Varsity Boys, the legacy that our legendary 'senior five' on the Varsity Girls team have created for ICS, and the repeat Championship title of our Equestrian team.
