Six Indian Creek Dancers Excel at Prestigious Kids Artistic Review Competition

Six Indian Creek dancers competed with their independent dance studios in the prestigious Kids Artistic Review (KAR) dance competition last weekend, held at Goucher College. Freshmen Riley Miknich, Jenna Bellet, and Addie Mock, eighth grade student Cate Malachowski, and seventh grade student Campbell McCormick (all members of the ICS Dance team during the 2018-19 season), each received honors on the highly competitive KAR stage.

Riley Miknich competed with her dance studio, Level Dance Project, and placed sixth overall with her solo 'Winter' in the Elite Teen Category (the highest level of competition). She was also the only Teen soloist from her studio to receive from the judges the 'All Star Dancer' invitation to the 'New York City Dance Experience' this summer. Riley started dancing in first grade, and started competing in the third grade. She has four more regional competitions this season and will be attending Beyond the Stars National Competition this summer in the Poconos.

Jenna Bellet and Addy Mock had an incredible performance in their very first competition, with their studio SPARK Dance. The girls’ trio “Can We Talk?” (choreographed by ICS Dance Coach Amy Rink), scored Top First in the Primary Duet/Trios category for ages 12-14. The dance earned the Regional Champion title, which came with a $100 scholarship, along with an invitation to the NYC Dance Experience this summer.

Cate Malachowski and Campbell McCormick also won the Regional Champion title and scholarship with their duet “Birds of a Feather,” which placed Top First in the Intermediate Duets/Trios 12-14 category, and earned them an invitation to NYC this summer. The girls also competed as the youngest members on the SPARK Dance senior competition team in the dance “Stranded,” which won 10th overall in the highly competitive Intermediate Small Group Age 14 category, and earned invitations to NYC. Campbell earned her highest score of the day with her solo “This Shirt,” which earned Top First in the Age 12-14 Intermediate Solo category and her third invitation to the NYC Dance Experience.

Congratulations to our Indian Creek dancers, and ICS Dance Coach Ms. Amy, for an exciting first competition of the season!
