Comeback Season Ends in Hard Fought MIAA Quarterfinals for Varsity Boys

Indian Creek's Varsity Boys Basketball team ended their season Tuesday, in an exciting, back and forth Quarterfinals Playoff game at Archbishop Curley High School. The team fought hard to make an appearance in the MIAA playoffs this season, notching must-win victories against St. Mary's, Severn, and Friends School all in the last week of regular play.

Junior Khiyon Washington had 23 points to lead the way for the Eagles, and senior Khalil Williams added 16 points. The Friars trailed going into the fourth quarter, evened the contest at 57 with less than three minutes to play, then closed the game with a 10-2 run.

This was the last game in an Eagles jersey for three incredible senior players, Bryce Collier, Carter Mullin, and Khalil Williams.

Bryce Collier is always one of the strongest players on the basketball floor. He certainly has been a strong player for Indian Creek. He has played both as a guard and forward on the varsity squad for three years at Indian Creek. Bryce’s strength and dedication have helped him achieve tremendous success this season. His intensity has helped him achieve success both on and off of the court. He has enjoyed his leadership role this year and he has helped others see how important it is to work hard in all aspects of the game.

Bryce has many accomplishments at Indian Creek. As a vibrant part of the student body, he is a member of the Diversity Committee and has led many challenging discussions. Bryce is quick to support his classmates and teammates and has enjoyed being at the Creek for high school. Coach Pratt says, “Bryce has been tremendous for our team this year. His perimeter shooting and defensive prowess have really helped the team strive to be successful this season. He is our best charge-taker. Bryce’s contributions sometimes do not show up in the score book, but he has accepted his role both on and off the court. He has really stepped up in games defending the other team’s best player at times. The Indian Creek community looks forward to watching Bryce in his future successes.”

Carter Mullin has added tremendous enthusiasm and hustle to the Varsity team. Among his multiple awards and honors, Carter received the Most Outstanding Player on the JV team and also the Player’s Choice award. In the fall, Carter had an exceptional soccer season for Indian Creek and was named Most Outstanding Player for the soccer team, along with being named to the All-Conference MIAA team. Carter is a multi-sport athlete and also plays tennis at IC. He also received the Most Outstanding Player award for tennis in his illustrious athletic career at the Creek. He has also been on the Head’s list for outstanding academics and is a gifted young man in many ways.

Carter is a diverse player who has played shooting guard, forward and point whenever called upon. Coach Pratt says of Carter, “Carter has been a pleasure to coach this year. We have asked Carter to come off the bench, start, and play inside vs. bigger opponents or outside vs. smaller guards. He has graciously accepted his role this season. Carter has been such an asset to our team both on and off the court. He has been a great leader and has provided scoring and rebounding coming off the bench. He has been a spark for us in numerous games this season. Carter is a wonderful example of being a good teammate. We look forward to watching his success in the future.”

Khalil Williams has been a member of the Indian Creek Varsity basketball team for three years and played on the Varsity team for his entire career. He is one of the most gifted and well-rounded players the Creek has ever had and his presence on and off of the court are distinguished.
Among multiple awards and honors, Khalil received the Student-Athlete of the Week highlight on WMAR-2 during his sophomore year. He has been All-Conference in the MIAA and has shot double digit points in every game this season. Khalil has received two most valuable player awards at high level invitational tournaments and was named MVP at two tournaments this season. He has received countless honors both on the court and off.

Khalil is also a high achiever in the classroom and on stage. He has had significant roles in many of the fabulous Indian Creek musicals. More impressively, he holds a 4.0 GPA and has impressive test scores that will help him pursue his academic dreams. He is a member of the Tri-M Honors and the National Honor Society. Coach Pratt says of Khalil, “I am very proud of Khalil! I have been impressed with his leadership abilities both on and off the court. He is intense and intelligent and a great young man to coach. He is also a terrific teammate and has led this team in points and rebounds all season. We have asked Khalil to play many different positions for us and he has accepted the challenge each and every game. Khalil always has a smile on his face. Khalil has an incredibly bright future ahead of him and we look forward to watching his success.”
