Indian Creek Math Team Takes on the AMC 10/12

The afternoon of Thursday, Feb 7, the ICS Math Team took part in the AMC 10/12, which is a multiple choice examination in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills.

14 ICS mathletes participated in the event. Speaking of her experience in the competition, Ashley Piper '19 said she loves the rush that comes with working through a tough problem, and then finally getting an answer she feels confident in. She said that while the AMC is incredibly challenging, it’s this very challenge that makes it all the more rewarding.

The AMC 10/12 is the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad. Scoring for each competition takes about three weeks to be completed, so the ICS Mathletes will find out their results at the end of February.  It would be a great honor and accomplishment for any Indian Creek student to advance to the next round, as only a vanishingly small percentage of AMC contestants do so.
