Matt McCormick finds it to be a joy to work in a place where a guiding philosophy he truly believes in is an integral part of daily life.
Since joining the ICS community in 2001, he has taught sixth, seventh, eighth, eleventh, and twelfth graders in English classes and Human Development to freshmen, coached Middle and Upper School varsity soccer, and has been part of the directing team and have built sets for over 30 plays and musicals.
He holds a BA in English from Washington and Jefferson College and a Masters in Liberal Arts from Johns Hopkins University. Over the years he has served on panels and presented at education conferences on a variety of topics related to teenage development, the neuroscience behind the "late start" structure for high schools, blended learning best practices, the historic importance of the Arts, and more. He has published lesson plans for Journeys in Film, and was featured in the Johns Hopkins MLA Jubilee Celebration. In 2015 Mr. McCormickwas awarded a fellowship by the Defiant Requiem Foundation to attend the The Rafael Schächter Institute for Arts and Humanities and has presented nationally and locally about holocaust studies. Mr. McCormick is also a co-founder of Indian Creek's BLinc program at ICS.
Mr. McCormick is confident that he has the greatest job in the world: "At Indian Creek I get to witness young people grow to take healthy risks and manage themselves confidently."
