Community Update from Head of School 3.24.2021

Dear ICS Community,

Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed a restorative and fun spring break with your families.

This past year has confirmed a truth that we already knew about our school community: Indian Creek students are one of a kind.

ICS students have risen to the challenges of the past year in impressive ways. They have adapted to changing schedules, guidelines, and deep shifts in what should be “constants” in their lives. Our students have respected protocols in order to keep our community safe. They have adjusted their mindsets, learning new skills and tools in order to continue deep learning in this new world. Our virtual students have put great effort into staying engaged with their classes, while on-campus learners have mastered hybrid learning systems. They’ve eaten lunches outside, created games to play in small groups at recess, and attended longer class periods in fewer spaces throughout the day. They have embraced opportunities, whether in the form of playing sports while wearing masks, outdoor theater performances and music concerts, virtual game nights, or zoom lunch bunches. They have supported each other through unprecedented times. And through it all, they have retained their curiosity, passion, and humor, serving as a reminder that we are all fortunate to have one another and be a part of a school community.

As a symbol of our appreciation and admiration, the faculty and staff of ICS have gifted each student with a One Creek t-shirt. Shirts have been distributed throughout this week to in-person students and Lower School virtual learners. Upper School virtual learners are invited to pick up their shirts through a drive-thru distribution tomorrow, (Thursday, March 25), from 3:45 – 5:00 p.m. at the Upper School Campus. If your student did not order a t-shirt but would like to receive one, or if you are a virtual learner and cannot make tomorrow’s pick-up, please email Nancy O’Brien.

I invite the entire student body to celebrate our community by wearing your shirts for a One Creek Spirit Day next Tuesday, March 30.

One Creek holds great meaning for our school this year, as we are pushing forward towards our goal to become one school on one campus. This phrase also conveys how unique and special our community is, in great part due to the spirit of our students. There is only one Indian Creek, and I am glad you are here.

Sincerely,

Booth Kyle
