Puerto Rico Service Trip - Grades 9-12

Dear Parents of Indian Creek Ninth through Twelfth Grade Students,

Indian Creek is a school that has always prided itself on authentic learning opportunities for students to grow into contributing members of the global community. Our students have felt this calling especially this year with the natural disasters that have impacted our hemisphere. A group of upperclassmen were moved by the devastation that hurricane Maria has wrought on Puerto Rico, and approached the Administration and Spanish Department with a proposal to organize a Puerto Rico Service Trip over Spring Break 2018. This trip is not associated with the previously planned travel and tour of Puerto Rico for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students which has been moved to June 2018.

The primary goal of this trip is to give our students the opportunity to provide support, service and reconstruction where needed in Puerto Rico. To ensure the best possible effectiveness and experience for this service trip, we have partnered with Vámonos Tours, a company we have worked closely with for years on trips to Puerto Rico.

We will hold an interest meeting for parents and traveling students on Wednesday, November 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the Becker Center for Performing Arts. Trip organizers, chaperones, and a representative from Vámonos Tours will be attending and available to answer any questions related to the service trip; e.g. itinerary, safety, conditions on the island, travel insurance, etc.
• TRIP DATES: The Puerto Rico Service Trip will depart BWI on Saturday, March 24 and return to BWI on Thursday, March 29, 2018.
• COST: The cost of this trip includes all meals, lodging, activities, airfare and taxes will be about $2,300 (the final price is dependent on the number of students traveling).

In addition to the initial deposit, you will need to purchase the cancel-anytime insurance of $115.
