Senior Spotlight: Sophia Smith
Sophia Smith has attended Indian Creek since Pre-K, so she’s long lived the experience of exploring and experimenting different areas of study in a supportive, nurturing environment, which has stirred her ambitions for college and beyond.
“ICS has inspired me to want to go into teaching and special education when I grow up,” said Smith. “At Indian Creek, I have found and developed my passion for art and volunteering. I play tennis, dance and participate in musicals.”
While at Indian Creek, Smith has volunteered extensively with an organization called Building Bridges to a Better Life, which serves the needs of homeless families in Washington, D.C. She has also spent her summers working on a farm.
Her passion for art has flourished at Indian Creek, where arts integration throughout the curriculum enhances learning across disciplines for all students. For Smith, that has resulted in a broad confidence to succeed in any pursuit. “Arts classes have been my favorite, because I enjoy being creative,” said Smith. “My favorite thing about Indian Creek is the numerous possibilities and opportunities that students have to try new things. Indian Creek has shaped me as a person, and I am proud of everything I have accomplished with the school’s help.”
