Jacob Hawthorne Named Volunteer of the Year by So What Else Service Organization

Indian Creek senior Jacob Hawthorne was recognized as Volunteer of the Year by So What Else, a DC-based organization that provides after-school and summer programs to children who do not otherwise have access to extracurricular enrichment activities. Jacob received his award and was inducted into the Volunteer Hall of Fame at the So What Else annual gala on November 1.

Jacob interned at this organization last summer, connecting with children and teaching sports and other enrichment activities.  The group recognized Jacob for his contributions, sharing "Having Jacob Hawthorne on the team was like having a full time staff member for summer camp. Jacob is only in high school but is committed to serving youth. His dedication to service during his time at So What Else has inspired him to continue a life of social work. Jacob worked at our site in southwest DC, and filled a tremendous gap by teaching sports and mentoring children in extreme need." Thank you Jacob.
