Indian Creek Boys Varsity Soccer Wins Fourth League Shutout Behind Brace of Goals by Ibe

On Tuesday, October 8, the Indian Creek boys varsity soccer team defeated Jemicy 5-0 to run its league record to 4-0 with its fourth straight league shutout.  Junior forward Zim Ibe led the Eagles with two goals, assisted by sophomore midfielder Danny Swope on both goals.

The Eagles came out ready to play with a sense of urgency and created several scoring opportunities in the first 10 minutes before Swope’s diagonal pass found Ibe moving forward on the left side of the Jemicy box. Ibe’s powerful shot found the side netting of the far post to put the Eagles up 1-0 in the 11th minute of the game.  About four minutes later Swope and Ibe connected again in a nearly identical play to put the Creek up 2-0.

In the 28th minute of the first half, senior winger John Potter crossed the ball into space behind the Jemicy back line for sophomore forward Sudan Wilson-Gumbs to run onto. Wilson-Gumbs found himself one on one with the Jemicy keeper and slotted the ball home for the third and final Eagles goal of the half.

The Eagles continued to apply pressure and play with intensity as the second half began. About 12 minutes into the half, the team strung together a series of quick one or two-touch passes that ended with frosh forward Benny Carter passing to senior centerback Shaem Spencer on a rare run forward who one-touched the ball into the goal to run the score to 4-0.

The final score of the game came from senior midfielder Tyler Sheppard off an assist from Wilson-Gumbs.  Sheppard’s long-range shot arched up and over the Jemicy keeper’s head and outstretched arms to settle in the back of the net and give the Eagles a 5-0 lead.  The remaining minutes saw the Eagles clearing the bench to give every player time in the game and preserve the clean sheet.

The Eagles took 32 shots to six for Jemicy, while Creek keeper Levi Kline had 5 saves to 9 for the Jemicy keeper.  ICS earned 9 corner kicks, while Jemicy had none for the game.  The Eagles are now 5-1-1 overall and 4-0 in MIAA C Conference play.
