Indian Creek Varsity Boys Soccer Wins 2-0 Shutout Against Beth Tfiloh

On Monday, September 23, the Eagles of Indian Creek defeated the Beth Tfiloh Warriors 2-0 behind a brace of goals from frosh forward Benny Carter.

Although the Eagles dominated possession and outshot the Warriors 8-1 during the first half, they struggled to find the back of the net as both teams battled the 93-degree heat. In the 38th minute of the half, senior Tyler Sheppard won the ball on the left side of the midfield and dribbled toward the center of the field where he spotted fellow senior Maurice Elder starting a run through the Warrior back line. Sheppard slotted the ball into space for Elder to run onto. As Elder dribbled forward toward the right side of the goal the Warrior back line and goalkeeper focused all their attention on the threat being created by Elder who calmly crossed the ball back in front of the goal for Carter to knock past the BT keeper by the far post. The Eagles took that 1-0 lead into the half.

The second half started with the Warriors coming out much stronger than they had in the first and they had the run of the play for most of the first 15 minutes of the half. Gradually the Eagles reasserted themselves as the half went on and the team began to create some scoring chances.

Finally, midfield pressure on the Warriors created a turnover in the 27th minute of the half that was played to Sheppard. Sheppard then passed to Carter who struck a powerful half-volley past the keeper at the near post from about 20 yards out to give the Eagles an insurance goal and a 2-0 lead. The Eagles spent the remaining 12 minutes of the game killing the clock for their second conference victory.

Junior Levi Kline played the entire game at goalkeeper and kept a clean sheet with three saves on six shots by the Warriors. The Eagles took 13 shots on the BT goal and forced the Warriors’ keeper to make three saves. Corners were 7 to 3 in favor of the Eagles. Indian Creek is now 2-0 in the MIAA C Conference and 3-0-1 overall.

Next up for the Eagles is Chapelgate Academy in an away game on Friday, September 27. Go CREEK!
