Eagles Field Hockey Opens Conference Play with 2-0 Win Over Key

A warm autumn afternoon saw the ICS Eagles begin their C-Conference campaign with a 2-0 win at home against The Key School yesterday.

From the beginning, the Eagles came out tough with multiple strong tackles leading to counter attack opportunities. Especially strong in the tackling were Micah Ferrell-Rogers '23 and Lexi Torstenson '22 who together locked down the left side of the field. Leading the attack was Olivia Maisano '21 and Ellie Sharma '21, who sent consistently strong penetrating balls into the attacking circle. Not content just to pass, Sharma tallied the first goal of the Eagles' season at 9:00 in the first half with a strong run up the right side.

In the second half, the Eagles' did well to manage a speedy front line of The Key School and won several offensive penalty corners. Finally, 6:40 into the second, a smooth pass off the corner insert from Maisano found a hard charging Kennedy Leonard '23 who redirected the ball to the bottom right corner scoring the first goal of her Eagles' career. Cate Malachowski '23 was recognized by the coaches for her hard tackling in the center back position and Gabby Pardo '22 was given the captains' award for creating chances offensively.

The Eagles continue their season with a home game Wednesday afternoon at 4:15 vs. The Gunston School.

Go Eagles!
