Two sessions available:

- Session 2: July 19 – July 30
Summer is the perfect time to foster – or build - a love of reading! During this two-week, summer term course, students will bolster reading skills, strengthen comprehension strategies, and have a great time exploring different genres of written works.
Created by Lower School Learning Specialist Beth Fromherz and taught by ICS alum Meghan Mercer '17, students in this course will focus on comprehension skills and strategies when reading fiction and nonfiction texts. They will participate in a daily comprehension "mini-lesson," as well as weekly guided reading groups featuring personalized texts. Students will also have the opportunity to select "right fit" books from a variety of genres to apply their strengthened reading skills and enjoy extension opportunities for reflection and response. Whether you are looking to encourage your child’s existing passion, or spark a new love for reading, the Summer Term 2021 experience is for you!
To accommodate summer schedules, this course will run twice. The two timeframes also allow families to pair the Reading Skills & Strategies course with our Math: Problem Solving Skills & Strategies course; thereby, providing a well-rounded primer for the coming fall term.
